# Times Tables Games - Capture the Square

Times tables learning needn't be dull. In this simple game for two players you will need cunning as well as a dash of luck in order to capture the most squares - and get a lot of multiplication practice along the way!

You will need:

• A copy of the grid. It is free to download. Play as many times as you like
• A way of generating numbers between 1 and 12 (eg a 12 sided dice, a shuffled pack of playing cards or a spinner)
• Two colours of pen (one for each player)

How to play (assuming you use a dice):

1. Player one rolls the dice
2. He then multiplies the number on the dice by the times tables he is practicing eg x6 for the x6 grid
3. Player one now marks a vertical or horizontal line adjacent to the correct answer of his choice on the grid (there are multiples of each number, so he can choose which square to mark - this is where the element of strategy comes in)
4. Player two takes a turn to roll, multiply and then mark a line

When a player marks the fourth side of a square he effectively encloses its, and it is he who "captures" that square. He can colour it in with his coloured pen.

The winner is the player with the most coloured squares at the end of the game.
